LIRR Main Line Expansion | Floral Park to Hicksville
The Long Island Railroad’s Main Line is one of the busiest commuter rail corridors in the United States, carrying more than 300,000 passengers each day. For decades, congestion along the Main Line between Floral Park and Hicksville created delays that could affect service across the LIRR network.
The LIRR Main Line Expansion project from Floral Park to Hicksville addressed these challenges with the addition of a new 9.8 mile third track between Floral Park and Hicksville in Nassau County, New York. Completed in October 2022, the project included new track infrastructure, station improvements, bridge modifications and replacements, grade crossing eliminations, and new retaining walls throughout the corridor.
As part of this major transportation improvement, Geoquest USA designed several T-Wall® retaining wall solutions for multiple locations along this project, including the Cherry Lane Bridge, where the existing bridge was replaced as part of the broader effort to improve safety and clearance.

T-Wall retaining walls helped accommodate the infrastructure improvements required within the existing rail corridor. Geoquest’s engineered retaining wall systems support major transportation infrastructure upgrades, even in constrained, active environments.
