Denbigh Boulevard Bridge over I-64 and CSX Railroad

Project Overview

The Denbigh Boulevard bridge over I-64 and CSX Railroad in Newport News, Virginia, was replaced to address structural deficiencies and bring the crossing up to current geometric and design standards. The project included a new bridge with four 12-foot lanes, a raised median and sidewalks, along with roadway approaches, new I-64 ramps, turn lanes and stormwater management improvements.

Construction was completed in stages to maintain one lane of traffic in each direction on Denbigh Boulevard throughout the work. Major construction was completed in July 2023.

T-Wall® Retaining Walls for the New Bridge Approach

As part of the bridge replacement, Geoquest supplied approximately 10,000 square feet of T-Wall® retaining walls to support the new Denbigh Boulevard bridge approach.

The T-Wall® system was installed along the south side of the bridge, providing the support needed to accommodate the roadway approach as Denbigh Boulevard crosses I-64 and the CSX railroad tracks.

The retaining walls were incorporated into the broader roadway improvements associated with the new bridge and interchange configuration, providing structural support while allowing the approach to fit within the available project footprint.
